Saint Elizabeth of Hungary
Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, born in 1207 to the King of Hungary, is revered for her deep spirituality and commitment to the poor. Married at a young age to Louis IV of Thuringia, she became a symbol of Christian charity. Known for her generosity, Elizabeth used her wealth to build a hospital and personally tended to the sick and needy. After her husband's death, she joined the Third Order of St. Francis, embracing a life of poverty and service. Canonized in 1235, Saint Elizabeth of Hungary is celebrated for her compassion and is a patron saint of charities, widows, and young brides. Her feast day is observed on November 17th.
Prayer to Saint Elizabeth of Hungary
O God, by whose grace your servant Elizabeth of Hungary recognized and honored Jesus in the poor of this world, grant that, through her intercession, we may serve with unfailing charity the needy and those afflicted. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
